She couldn’t remember a thing. Laying flat on sharp, dark-green grass, all she could recall were screams and explosions. Who was she? Where did she come from? What happened? Questions remained unanswered…
The world was blurry before her eyes. She saw a hand, laying just in front of her face. She realized, that it was her own hand, as she was laying on her side. A hand with a pale-blue skin. ‘Draenei. I’m draenei’ - a thought popped in her head. She began to feel her own body. Pain. Unbelivable pain in every single part of it was growing stronger. Hands, legs, tail, even her horns were burning in pain. What happened?
She tried hardly to recall anything. Explosion! There was a big explosion. She was burned, and swept away by it… And then she was flying! No, not flying. Falling down. The ground was closer, and closer… And A burning shape of crystal and stone was speeding away from her, flying through the skies… No, not flying. It was also falling down, leaving a trail of smoke and deribs behind. She remembered that shape. Her ship, her city. The Exodar.
Orcs! She could recall orcs everywhere! Inside the ship; orcs with weapons, orcs with magic. One of them hurled a glowing ball of energy at one of the purple crystals. It exploded, sending fire and sharp chunks of crystal everywhere. The pain… The forceful explosion blew a hole in the wall. The fiery wave, and countles hits of crystal needles that’s what swept her away from the ship.
But she couldnt remember anything more, no matter how hard she tried. Who was she? What was she doing on that ship? All she could remember was, that the ship was her home. A home to many, many more creatures, similiar to her. A home to the draenei race. And the orcs destroyed it.
A name. She had a name. She surely had, names are important…
‘Xarra’. Yes, that’s the name, she thought. ‘Xarra. Wake up Xarra’.
A moment later she realised why she did recall her name. Someone was calling her by that name. But not before, in some forgotten past. Here! She could hear it here, laying on the grass. The voice that was calling was weak. It sounded like through a solid wall. But it was getting stronger, and stronger.
‘Wake up, Xarra’.
The voice was coming closer and closer, like someone was standing just beside her. She tried to lift her head. Pain, sharp pain in ther neck reminded her of her own condition. She couldn’t even turn her head, as it was glued to the grass. And it partially was - by her own, clotted blood.
‘Xarra, wake up!‘
Finally she saw it. A creature she could not name. But was it a creture? She could see just through it! A ghost? ‘Am I dead?’ she thought.
‘No, not yet‘ answered the voice. ‘But you will be. Soon.‘
‘I don’t want to die‘. The thought terified her.
‘I know. But I cannot help you‘. The voice was calm, and it was bringing peace into her mind.
‘Then why…‘
‘You can help yourself‘ the voice answered. ‘Just try to hear these lands. Feel them. Feel the hardness of the earth. You have to be as hard as the toughest rock to survive. Feel it.‘
She knew she was dying. And she didn’t want to. She wanted to live. And she tried. Nothing. Nothing at first, but then… She could hear a faint whisper. It was all around her. She plead for help in her thoughts, trying to overcome the pain. And the whisper answered. She could almost feel she is getting stronger.. her bones, her horns… The pain started to fade away.
‘You need energy Xarra. It is all around you. You need it. You need the fire. Reach for it.‘
And she did. It was no longer cold. She could feel her body filling with life energy. The tingling from the tips of her fingers, to the end of her tail.
‘You need to live, Xarra. And the water is life. Use the sthenght of the water, that can break even the hardest rock. Use it. Make your own blood flow again.‘
Yes, now she coud do it. She could feel her own blood pulsing again. She was alive. Reborn.
‘And now breath in, Xarra. Your first breath. You need the air.‘
It was more like a gasp, it filled her lungs with pain, like a first baby breath. She almost cried. From pain, as well as from joy. Because at the moment she realised, that she wasn’t breathing before.
‘Yes, that’s it, Xarra. Live! We need you. This world needs you. The war you were fighting before is not over. And it is here.‘
She was feeling stronger and stronger with every breath. Her bones hard as rock, and no longer shattered.
The energy filling her body with warmth. The blood flowing through her veins.
‘We need you , Xarra. You’ll find us. And we will teach you, young shaman. Just look for the ones we have chosen.‘
The voice faded away. As she sat, for the first time in her new life, there was no one around to be seen.
A few moments later she stand up. There was no pain, and she could feel the chilly night breeze. And the smells of the strange forrest, that surrounded her. Wait! There was someone in the distance. Coud it be the ghost?
No, as she came closer, she recognized a draeiei, just as her. A male draenei. He ran to her with open arms, smiling. And she heard the words, filled woth joy, spoken in familiar language.
‘You survived‘…
